Prior to producing our digi-packs, we need to have a rough idea of what it is we want to portray to our target audience.

Young adults want to feel the pain/emotion that Ella is going through but also want to see the relationship with her music. How engaged is she with musical instruments? Music is what's helping her to cope so it's important that we show how it plays a major role in her life. We want to display this in the digital pack.

My last blog focuses on the conventions of a digipak in general. This focuses mainly on similar artists within our contemporary R&B/Soul Genre.I've researched well known artists such as Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys who portray their own line of work. Their characteristics are shown through the composition, font, colour and shots.

Digital Pack analysis

Alicia's adapted in the same way, she's clearly shown that shes true to her music. She's accompanied by her keyboard. Her look is also classy, casual. The fact that the piano is taking one side of the frame shows this

I've taken a photo of R&B artist Mario's digi-pack - I admire how all panels sell him to the audience by revealing his identity. The white background suggests this new beginning he strives for and shows him being a normal boy from Chicago that happens to be living his dream.

Inside

This is another one of his inside panels- it's a large paragraph thanking those who were involved in producing his album.

Here is another photo of Mario, below is information on how the audience can keep updated with his music.

The layout is similar to his album cover. His name and Album title is also placed here. Below is the copyright information regarding distribution of the album and his record label.

Just like a typical digi-pack, he has included the back by listing all of the tracks available in this album. They are listed one by one with copyright information about the record label again. The small writing in blue below are websites - a form of promotion for the artist and record label. To conclude, there is a barcode with the product number.

The front cover is straightforward here, the picture of him with his name and album title are clearly shown along with the 'Parental Advisory explicit content' logo which informs us on swearing/sensitive content being in his songs

CD Cover

This is his first inside panel, this picture defines the album cover as it's showing more of him personally and his style. He's laid-back and cool here - putting on his glasses also reinforces the stereotype on boys wearing shades with the idea of being cool.

Lauryn Hill has continued her theme of 'Education' - In the front and back covers we can see the layout of a desk with a pencil. The back shows the tracks written down which connote knowledge- once the audience has listened to the album, they'll learn. What I admire about this digipak is that Its like a lesson taking place where you would take notes and learn the information- she's interpreted this in terms of the meanings of her songs.

Here, UK Soul Artist Gabrielle has defined her look for her album cover. Here it's bold and classy which definitely match her persona.
