In today's lesson, we took a glimpse at the expectations of Artists' posters. First, we established the purpose of a poster which is to promote/advertise their upcoming piece of work, usually a single. We were given three different types of posters from different artists of different genres, I received a Madonna poster, which i then had to annotate acknoledging that everything placed on it has an intended meaning. We then got into groups based on who had the same poster and shared our ideas.
Followed by this, we continued practicing our photoshop skills by creating a poster selling Lianne La Havas' new single 'Tokyo'. I've simply selected a suitable photo of her followed by suitable text. I was careful with the placement of everything. After, we looked at everyones edits and gave feedback on the positives as well as how to improve.
Codes and conventions of a poster

Here is another example of a official poster, promoting UK Grime/Rap artist Wretch 32's upcoming appearance based on his latest album. Every bit of content on here represents himself to the audience.
'Wretchrospective' is placed at the center of the page which implies him reflecting on his past. The colours white and black contrast his roots along with his present/future.
Background reveals his past. Council estates reinforce the dominant ideology of a lower class, urban background- which is where he originated from.
The colour scheme is quite masculine, which deliberately attracts a predominantly male audience, this also reveals his genre.

The denotation is the colour of her neck which is Red&Hot pink/lilac which connotes her desire for Music - we get a sense that it's 'in her blood' because she loves it so much.
The subtitle 'Celebration' being in pink connotes femininity - her target audience is predominantly female.
